How to Find Your Ford Mondeo Radio Serial Number
Most Mondeo radios can show their serial number right on the display, without touching a single screw. Switch the radio on, then press and hold buttons 1 and 6 together for a couple of seconds. The screen will cycle through some technical readouts, and towards the end of that cycle a serial starting with V should appear, followed by six digits — for example V120290.
Didn’t get anything useful the first time? Turn the radio off, then on again, and this time hold 2 and 6 instead. This second combination tends to work on older 4000 and 5000 RDS units and reveals an M serial, such as M197905. Occasionally the serial scrolls past in two separate chunks — if that happens, just join the pieces together without a space in between.
If neither combination shows anything at all, the radio needs to come out slightly, using a pair of release keys pushed into the front slots, so you can read the serial printed on a label on the side of the casing. Blaupunkt TravelPilot navigation units are the exception here — their 12-digit serial or C7E3F-prefixed code is always on the label, never on screen.
Worth knowing: if your Mondeo has a SYNC touchscreen — common from around 2015 onwards — you likely don’t need a code at all. SYNC systems reactivate automatically after a power cut, since Ford moved away from the classic 4-digit lock on those units.

Why Does the Mondeo Radio Ask for a Code?
This has nothing to do with the radio being broken. Ford builds an anti-theft feature into its factory units — the moment power is cut, whether from a flat battery, a replacement battery, a jump start, or some dashboard work, the radio locks itself and refuses to play until it’s given the correct code again.
If the screen shows CODE, LOCKED, or a similar message, resist the urge to start guessing numbers. A handful of wrong attempts can trigger a longer lockout, so it’s worth gathering the correct serial first and entering the real code once you’ve got it.
Ford 6000 CD on the Mondeo
