Turn on the radio and hold buttons 1 and 6 together for around 5 seconds — the precode flashes briefly on most Update List and Tuner List units.
Older Megane (I–II)
If the shortcut doesn’t work, insert ISO release keys into the four pinholes at each corner of the fascia and slide the unit forward.
Newer Megane (III–IV)
For R-Link 2 or MediaNav units, use the VIN method instead — it’s quicker and avoids removing the touchscreen unit at all.
Why does the Megane radio ask for a code?
Every factory Renault radio is programmed with a unique security code at the point of manufacture. When power is cut — from a disconnected battery, a flat battery, a jump start, or dashboard work — the unit locks itself and asks for that code the next time it’s switched on.
This is a normal anti-theft feature, not a fault. Once the correct code is entered, the radio works again immediately. If the screen shows WAIT or a locked message after a few wrong attempts, leave the radio powered on until the lockout period clears before trying again.
