Renault Clio Radio Code by VIN Number or Security Code
Retrieve your Renault Clio radio code by VIN or security code
If your Clio’s radio is asking for a code after a battery change, flat battery, radio replacement, or electrical repair, you can request the code online using either the vehicle’s VIN number or the short security precode printed on the radio unit.
Renault Clio VINs typically start with VF1, for example VF12RAU1C56477160. If you’d rather use the radio itself, the security precode is a short 4-character code such as A123 or H758, printed on the unit’s label.
Enter your Clio VIN or security code
Use the full 17-character VIN, or the 4-character precode from the radio label.
How to find your Renault Clio VIN or security code
The VIN method works without removing anything from the dashboard, and is the quickest option for Clio IV and Clio V owners with MediaNav or R-Link touchscreens. If you’d rather use the radio’s own label, the unit needs to come out of the dash first — the exact method depends on which generation you have.

Check the VIN
Found at the base of the windscreen, on the driver door pillar sticker, or on your V5C registration document.
Older Clio (I–III)
Insert radio release keys into the four pinholes at each corner of the fascia, then slide the unit forward — no wires need disconnecting.
Newer Clio (IV+)
Use a trim prying tool to remove the surrounding panel, unscrew the mounting screws, then slide the unit forward.
Why does the Clio radio ask for a code?
Renault programs a unique security code into every factory radio at the point of manufacture. When power is cut — from a disconnected battery, a flat battery, a jump start, or dashboard work — the unit locks itself and displays a code request the next time it’s switched on.
This is a standard anti-theft feature, not a fault. Once the correct code is entered, the radio returns to normal operation straight away. If you see a countdown timer after a few wrong attempts, that’s also expected — just leave the radio powered on until it clears before trying again.
Renault Clio radio code by VIN number
If you don’t want to remove the radio, the VIN method is usually the fastest route — especially useful for Clio 4 and Clio 5 owners with a MediaNav or R-Link touchscreen. A Clio VIN starts with VF1, followed by 14 more characters, e.g. VF12RAU1C56477160.
Enter the complete 17-character VIN exactly as shown, without spaces. Once it’s verified, the matching radio code is emailed to you — no dashboard panels to remove, no dealer booking required.
The same VIN and security-code lookup covers the wider Renault range too. Visit our Renault Radio Code page for Megane, Scenic, Captur, Kangoo and more.
Common Renault Clio security code examples
Some Clio radios show a short precode on the label instead of using the VIN. This precode is not the final unlock code itself — it identifies the correct code for your specific radio.
A123
Common Philips/Blaupunkt-style precode format.
H758
Another typical 4-character precode seen on Clio labels.
S676
Example precode format used across several Clio generations.

Renault Clio radio code FAQ
Can I get my Renault Clio radio code using just the VIN?
Yes, in most cases. Clio VINs starting with VF1 can usually be matched to the correct radio code without removing the unit from the dashboard.
Where do I find the VIN on a Renault Clio?
Check the base of the windscreen on the driver’s side, the sticker on the driver’s door pillar, or your V5C registration document. The VIN is 17 characters long.
What does the Clio radio security code look like?
It’s a short 4-character precode, usually a letter followed by three digits, such as A123 or H758. It’s printed on the radio label, often at the end of a longer barcode under a heading like SECURITY or PRE CODE.
Do I need to remove the radio to get the code?
Not if you use the VIN method. If you prefer to use the security code from the label instead, the radio does need to be released from the dashboard first.
Does this work for all Clio generations?
Yes. We cover Clio I through Clio V, including Philips, Blaupunkt, Daewoo and VDO units, as well as newer MediaNav and R-Link touchscreen systems.
My Clio radio shows a countdown timer after a wrong code. Is that normal?
Yes. Renault radios display a countdown after several incorrect code entries as a security measure. Leave the radio powered on until the timer ends before trying again.
